Enhancing a National Icon with LED Technology

LED Vision proudly presents the successful completion of an LED lighting upgrade for Istana Melawati, an official building under the Prime Minister’s Department. Known for its majestic architecture inspired by traditional Malay design, the complex required a lighting system that could reflect its cultural roots while utilizing modern, sustainable technology.

The project was part of a national initiative to enhance government buildings with energy-efficient LED lighting, aligned with Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPJ) guidelines and executed within the timeline set by JKR (Public Works Department).

Lighting Design that Preserves Tradition

To maintain architectural authenticity, we implemented warm 2700K LED lights that replicate the soft glow of traditional flame-based lighting. Key lighting enhancements include:

Roof Tier Illumination

  • LED fixtures placed between roof layers to highlight the stratified design

  • Enhanced visibility of traditional elements like eaves and buah butong through focused lighting

Tower Glow Effects

  • Wide-beam internal wall washers create a warm inner glow that highlights the three-dimensional structure of each tower

  • Narrow-beam external wall washers emphasize height and verticality, reinforcing the traditional wooden tower concept


 

Intelligent Lighting with the BCS Control System

Our custom BCS lighting control system offers dynamic scheduling and energy optimization through four preset modes:

  • Mode 1 (Festive Mode): Full illumination every Friday to Sunday, 7PM – 10PM

  • Mode 2: Tower and selected external DBs, 40% reduced power, active until midnight

  • Mode 3: Minimal lighting, active until 2AM

  • Mode 4: Tower-only illumination, 80% energy reduction, active until 7AM

This system ensures optimal visibility, aesthetics, and energy conservation throughout different times of the day.

Detailed Scope of Work

The lighting upgrade was part of a broader infrastructure enhancement that covered:

  • Civil and structural upgrades

  • Mechanical and electrical improvements

  • Complete LED integration across:

    • Banquet Hall

    • Reception and Residential Wings

    • Royal and Melawati Towers

Measured lighting outputs followed PPJ’s lighting masterplan requirement (10–25 cd/m²), ensuring consistent brightness and visual harmony across all building zones.

This project is a perfect blend of cultural preservation and smart lighting innovation. The use of recessed and hidden light sources ensures that the building’s heritage design remains undisturbed, while modern LED technology provides long-term energy savings and reduced maintenance costs.
